Calling All Oklahoma Bands, Visual Artists, Filmmakers, Record Labels and Venues!!!
Harp & Lyre from Oklahoma CityAnt.Lion wants to know about your shows!! I'll be frank. You need guests and we need news, so please help us help you. If you've got a show at an Oklahoma venue we want to know so we can write an article about it and help spread the word. We don't care if you're playing at a microvenue like the Opolis or someplace bigger like the Cox Convention Center. We just want the scoop on local, independent artists looking to promote their shows (signed or unsigned). Our goal is to create a digital hub for young, talented artists and those who like to attend shows -- a one-stop-source for the latest happenings in the Oklahoma art/music/film scenes. We do have a few disclaimers.
Ant.Lion's target audience music-wise is the 16-30 demographic. We want to promote young and upcoming local artists. So if you're an aging hippy with a jam band -- as friggin' awesome as that is -- Ant.Lion really isn't the place to promote your music. Sorry.
Michael Turner of NW OKC based hip-hop duo The MajesticMusicians: Just about any genre is fair game except for country. We have nothing against that genre, but we really want to focus on bands that may have a tougher time gaining local access. This is Oklahoma. Country rules here. In particular, we prefer the following genres: indie rock, singer/songwriter, alternative, hip-hop, rap, electonic, punk, melodic hardcore, post-hardcore, metal, and metalcore. This is just a general idea. If you're a gigging space rock band with shoegaze influences and avant-garde tendencies, hit us up. We want details on upcoming shows, tours and CD releases!
Visual Artists: If you have a public gallery show coming up, we want to know. Student-age/20-something artists are preferred.
Filmmakers: If you have a public screening coming up at a theater, venue, or festival, please let us know. Again, student-age/20-something filmmakers are preferred.
Be sure to have some promotional photos for us to post. If we decide to run a story on your show, we must have an image to go with it. We don't mean to be picky, but come on, stories without pictures are lame.
"The Stanton Family Grave Robbery" by Norman based Singletree ProductionsAlso, this is not a depository for demos. We're looking for artists who are organized, driven, and have already begun gigging. If our readers can't go see you perform at a reputable venue (read: not your cousin's basement) then check back with us once you've reached that level.
In summation, if you're a starving artist, if your boyfriend is playing in the Paseo, if your girlfriend has a gallery show coming up, or if you're a venue hosting any of the above, let us know. Ant.Lion just wants to spread the word! Hell, if we like your sound we may approach you for an interview and a special feature on the site. So, please drop us a line at our Contact Us page. Thanks! And spread the word about Ant.Lion. The bigger we get, the more we can help you!
