New At The Drive-In concert footage surfaces
I still want a Cedric fro.At The Drive-In will always be one of my favorite post-hardcore bands. One of my biggest regrets is not listening to them before they broke up and thus not being able to go to their concerts. I've seen Mars Volta live, and although they put on a stellar show, they still don't compare to the raw intensity of ATDI. Their stage presence and their sound is often immitated but when it comes down to it, there's only one Cedric Bixler and one Omar Rodriguez.
So, anytime new At The Drive-In concert videos are released, I have to watch them. Torsten Meyer posted some new ATDI concert videos on his website (((unartig))) over the weekend. He shot all of these by the way. He also wrote a great article about his experiences with the band.
Here's a video. Really, nothing beats watching Cedric Bixler dancing around, playing the maracas, and generally going totally nuts on stage:
Many more videos can be found here along with the wonderful article Meyer wrote.
And many thanks to FordK for the heads up on this one!

At The Drive-In was a great band...I'm really sad that their splintered into Sparta and The Mars Volta, because neither is as good as At The Drive-In was. Somebody played TMV for me when I was tripping mushrooms, and well, that was the last time I listened to them. But I can't handle extremely loud cacophonous sounds, while it pushes the edges of sonic intensity, that's not for me.
Favorite At The Drive-In songs: "One Armed Scissor", "Cosmonaut", and "Give It A Name"
Those are some of their best songs. "Transatlantic Foe," "Schaffino," and "For Now . . We Toast" are among my favorites.
I still remember first hearing the band in Hoyt's english class my junior year of high school. It was a slow, do-nothing-day and Ford and I were sitting against the wall. I felt tired and told him (I typically slept through my first hour classes). He then handed me a pair of earbuds and said, "This'll wake you up." The song I heard was "Mannequin Republic," and it changed everything.
