Album of the Week!! Gotta Be Dirty Projectors!!
From the top, clockwise: Brian Mcomber, Angel Deradoorian, Nat Baldwin, Amber Coffman, David Longstreth, Haley Dekle A little zaney, a little out there, genius? Yes. Here's a little background on the band for those who may not have heard of them. Dirty Projectors is led by Dave Longstreth (Vocals), Amber Coffman (Guitar and Vocals), Angel Deadoorian (Vocals, Keys, Guitar, Synth, Programs, ets), Brian Mcomber (Drums), Nat Baldwin (Bass), and Haley Dekle (Vocals). The band Hails from Brooklyn, NY and have written an album that has literally shook the underground scene to its knees.
Dirty Projectors' new album, "Bitte Orca," definitely deserves a nomination for album of the year. Their 2007 album "Rise Above" basically put them on the map. Lead Singer Dave Longstreth, who almost single handedly wrote the album, creatively correlated it to the Black Flag Album "Damaged". "Bitte Orca," which was released June 9th, has yet to gain the recognition it rightly deserves. This is by far the best album that has been put out thus far from the Projectors. It leaves one to wonder what will come of this band in the future now that we see what they are maturing to be.
Pitchfork Magazine rightly gives "Bitte Orca" a 9.2 out of 10 in comparison to former album of the year Grizzly Bears' "Veckatimest" which was a 9.0. The new sound from Dirty Projectors would have to be a mix of The Antlers new album "Hospice" and a little bit of Animal Collective depending on the song. The album takes you through a roller coaster of sounds. Some people like to label it experimental but I would lean more towards that underground, gritty as hell, pure indie sound. In the previous albums that Longstreth was involved in, he wrote songs that seemed to have "moments of brilliance". Songs "Fucked for life" and "I will truck" and other songs on "Rise Above" showed small glimmers of what that voice of his really contains. This new album, however, is nine songs of genius. Every song has a different sound, every song has a new message, and every song is addicting. Great for driving, great for reading, great for jamming. The song that sold me though on this album would be the song "Fluorescent Half Dome". This song starts out so simplistic and slow that it reminds you of a Flaming Lips jam from when they were good. Then comes the kick and the snare and you are grabbing your seat, hoping the ride never stops.
I highly recommend this album above most albums that have come out this year. For questions about the tour schedule or if you simply want to learn more about the band and what they are about check out their Myspace @ http://www.myspace.com/dirtyprojectors.

So, I'm the worst in finding new music and decided I'd try out some of the albums you guys talked about. I've really enjoyed Dirty Projectors. Its pretty original and I like hearing women sing without being all filtered and stuff like the pop queens. Gonna have to try out some more.
